Guitars From Another Realm -- An ever-evolving informational resource on the top tier of advanced guitar making under the representation of Fine Guitar Consultants (FGC).

At Fine Guitar Consultants, it is not our intention to show 'favoritism' in any way. Players, collectors, hobbiests, semi-professionals, and top recording artists from across the U.S. and twelve countries abroad count on us to help sort through guitar options in a way that helps each individual make some sense out of the many choices in today's hand made guitars.

This section of FGC's web site, 'Guitars From Another Realm,' is now employed at the task of identifying instruments that behave in special ways beyond the norm. The musicality of these instruments is usually complex, intriguing, and often there are intense design features that call attention to their unique qualities--though they are not 'special' by virtue of design alone! For us, it always is and always will be about the tone .

There will be more pages to flip through very soon. There are now six pages. Our first entry at hand today is William Jefferey Jones and his Kronos fretless semi-hollow body electric. Jeffrey, as he prefers to be called, has earned well deserved fame as a successful commercial sculptor in the toy industry for many years. If you root around in your children's toy box, or up on that child's shelf of prized posessions, you may find Buffy The Vampire Slayer, figures from Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Flash Gordon, The Matrix Trilogy, Terminator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, and many others. William Jeffrey Jones now turns his full time and attention toward creating his most intense desire: fully sculpted guitars. He has made a good number of them these past years. While his Kronos design first captivated our attention, followed by several lengthy phone calls that revealed this artist's true calling--leaving NO doubts--when he sent us this 'Kronos' fretless electric to experience first hand, the truth hit us like a load of golden bricks.

Here are some details: Kronos is a semi-hollow, fretless, 6-string. A center block runs down the middle of the body until just beyond the string ends. The rest of the body, carved inside and out, is hollow. The backside of the walnut top is carved for better acoustic response. The bridge is sculpted ebony with a maple saddle. The body is soft maple topped with old growth walnut. The 5-piece neck is also made of walnut and maple, capped with a very dense hardwood fretboard from Central America called Katalox, into which cocobolo veneers are inlaid for fret lines. Here is a very honest and unpretentious sound demo of the Kronos. The maker recorded this in a straight forward way. No high-priced hired guns to do a polished track--just a man expressing himself on his instrument. I am proud of Jeffrey's work. It is our hope that you will appreciate who he is and what he is up to in making guitars that are so obviously 'From Another Realm!' By the way--as a personal bonus with this instrument, Jeffrey will design and hand carve a special 'creature head' knob as an homage to his toy-studded past. As the owner of this instrument, you will be able to interchange knobs with the sculpted one, if you like. The original sculptured knob will be carved from ebony to match the bridge wood of Kronos.

Other luthiers that we represent do work of a nature that we categorize as Guitars From Another Realm. As the days go on, this section of our web site will grow and mature with examples of their work. These guitars are not for everybody. They are for people of means who choose to use their available monies to advance and dance with their music down new roads that are challenging, fun, and tantallizing. There is certainly no shame in colecting these guitars for the sheer aesthetic joy that Fine Art can bring! That generosity from the private sector is what helps feed this micro-economy of the highest forms of the luthier's art! Welcome. It is our pleasure to help facillitate that for those of you who can. Fine Guitar Consultants is a part of that micro-economy, as well. Best of all, when you choose to work with Richard, the guitars are available at exactly the same pricing as when purchased direct. In a number of cases, Fine Guitar Consultants is acting as exclusive representative for major guitar makers. We appreciate that vote of confidence from both sides of the Guitar World! Here's to Great Guitars! NOTE: This Kronos is now SOLD--another with similar woods is being carved now for FGC.
