2007 Teuffel Tesla Studio model

Ulrich Teuffel, sole designer and creator of Teuffel Guitars of Germany creates very musical and functional instruments. We are proud to be Ulrich Teuffel's only outside representative for his guitars. For some thoughts and description from this artist/engineer/luthier, click here. We also have the Birdfish and Niwa models to show those visiting us here at FGC. This one is the Tesla Studio, one of three Tesla configurations currently available to order here at FGC. The looks, the function, the musicality--it's all present and accounted for. In addition to the clean, modern sounds you would hope for in a modern guitar design, the Tesla Classic model (not featured on the MIDI model) has some old tricks up its sleeve! Within the press of one of two buttons, you can re-capture the old noisy and quirky 60 cycle hum and controlled feedback that are a nostalgic part of vintage rock and roll! The 'Apricot'-color Studio model we have here is one of five jewel-tone colors available. The Studio has none of the retro effects. It is a straight forward 3-pickup guitar. This one is available for sale. It remained unfinished for a period of time when it was Ulrich Teuffel's personal playing guitar. When he decided to release it, we gave him our color preference and he finished the instrument, then sent it on as a new guitar with warranty to FGC. He put a rosewood fingerboard on this one. Only a few teslas have the rosewood board. Other than this one, when ordering from FGC, Charcoal, Fire, Sapphire, and Olive are the other colors available. Suitable to play standing or sitting, the Teuffel guitars are beautifully balanced. For sit-down players, the Tesla is probably the most perfectly designed electric guitar I have seen for that purpose. The guitar, when displayed on its slender alluminum upright pole on a stainless steel floor disk (stand is optional at extra cost), can be imagined in an art museum. In fact, Teuffel guitars are currently displayed in five museums around the world.

This rare resale instrument is a 'find'
2003 Michael Greenfield OM model, s.n. #2292

"There are not many resale Greenfield guitars around. This one, which we have available now is here for one reason only: Its former owner decided that he needs a cutaway for his chosen repertoire. If a cutaway is not your priority, then this could be your lucky day. This vibrant OM is a sparkler. The fully bear-clawed Sitka spruce top sits upon a back and sides of Madagascar rosewood. The rosewood is quarter sawn, yet exhibits beautifully interesting figure. The aesthetic theme here is the beauty of the wood. The sound is powerful, sensitive, and all the things you would hope for in a lively, well-balanced instrument. The playability is excellent. It plays relatively effortlessly. Nicely intonated--and plenty of headroom. There is a contemporary classical nature to this steel string. It certainly is a beautifully expressive instrument. I highly recommend this guitar for fingerstyle work. When I think of the factory manufactured guitars that I have seen for the same money, I just shake my head. Here are some specs that you will want to know: The nut width is 1 3/4". The scale length measures 25.4", as you would expect in a traditional OM. The lower bout measures 14 7/8". Fretboard and bridge are ebony. Fully bound in wood with ultra thin purfling accents shows off Greenfield's subtle pinpoint detailing. The details are everywhere and though not overly showy, the guitar exudes class." --Richard

Starting to 'open up' and now released from the FGC 'vault!'
2006 Michael Greenfield model G1, s.n. #116

Greenfield guitars sell rather quickly. Because of this fact, we have kept a new one in the 'vault' for two years so we have one to gently show to clients when they come in to work with us here at FGC. It is now time to find it its first home. This is an elegant, medium weight guitar with 'heavyweight' sound. I am reminded of the first time I had an old 1940's D'Angelico in my lap. Solid power. This is that kind of solidity I feel here--yet with great sensitivity and responsiveness as well. Michael has physically scaled up his classical guitar model and braced and voiced it for steel strings. The radially braced back works well. The mahogany one-piece hand carved neck (carbon graphite reinforced) is topped with Gotoh 510 gold plated tuners and ebonoid buttons. Scale length is 25.4". The nut width is 1 3/4". 2 1/4" string spacing at the bridge. The fit and finish are quite beautiful, inside and out. Fine details include double light wood purfling strips on every edge, creating a crisply defined look that is very handsome. Dual concentric rings of abalone are embedded into a spalted natural mosaic wooden rosette ring, making the pearl a more understated surprise to the eye. Classy. A nicely quartered, parabolically shaped Alpine spruce soundboard over old, quartered East Indian rosewood is a superb combination of materials. I will trust Michael's choice of woods any day. He is very careful to pick the finest tonewoods from the best choices at hand. This back and side material is a glassy reflective surface that lends a rich color to the reverberant sound. If you crave power and sensitivity in one package, this may indeed be the one. We did not raise the price from the 2006 Greenfield prices. Enjoy!

Near-Mint 2002 A. Davis M-1 'FGC Special'

This is a richly focused guitar with a snappy, full presence, yet with low action. The guitar has a shimmering tone that is well-balanced with a big dynamic range. Great volume and headroom. The weight of the guitar is light, and it is fun to hold and easy to play. There is a liveliness and energetic quality here--an uncommon trait that defines all the guitars we accept in our collection of luthier instruments here at FGC. A stiff and sparkling Sitka spruce top is fixed to beautiful, flamed maple back and sides on this instrument from Art Davis's bench. The bridge is of ebony, while the boxwood bridge pins make a finessed tonal contribution to the sound. Nut width: 1 3/4". Scale length is 25.5" The upper bout measures 10.75"; the lower bout is 14.25". Phosphor Bronze light gage strings drive the top well. A dash of flash in abalone top edge and rosette purfling sets off the natural spruce under clear finish. Tasty Maple leaf inlays on the ebony fret board are a nice touch. This can be your songwriting and performance guitar. Talk with Richard to see if this matches your music style and sensibilities.

2005 Charles Fox 'F-Style' 'Lucky 12'

"This Charles Fox F-Style cutaway is from the Master's bench. On a visit to Charles Fox's shop and school, The American School of Lutherie, I worked closely with Charles to specify one of our first 'Lucky 12' guitars. Prior to Charles' Ergo guitar project that we are happily involved in as representatives, this sample instrument for FGC shows some of Charles' best work in the realm of traditional guitar making. I called for specifications that work for me as a fingerstyle player who occasionally does rhythm and single line runs. I asked Charles for a medium C-shaped neck with a 1 25/32" nut. The 25.5" scale length, as promised, does not take away from the easy playing feel of this instrument. A very intimate guitar, this one is a 12-fret cutaway. The greatest comfort benefit is that when playing in first position, the fretboard is nearer to the body. I don't have to reach out as far with my left hand. The geometry of the compound cutaway is beautiful and subtle. Increasing the angle inside the cutaway and eliminating the hard 'jog' in the jutting wood that you see in so many cutaway designs results in obstacle-free maximum access to the high notes. This is a great formula. The tone is darkly sweet with a bright personality. I have not used that description before. That is because I have not before encountered a guitar that sounds quite like this. To increase my thrill factor from behind the guitar, Charles added a side sound port. The haunting, balanced tone floats around my head from the player's perspective. Exquisite experience. The very stiff Sitka spruce 'Lucky 12' soundboard sounds and looks gorgeous. Read about these rare soundboards if you haven't already. A recent issue of Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine also had an article on Fine Guitar Consultants and the Lucky 12 Sitka spruce soundboards that are available only from FGC. The back and sides of this guitar are among the finest pieces of East Indian rosewood that Charles had in his possession. The tone rivals much of the Brazilian rosewood that is out there today. You get the benefits of rosewood in a more stable, quartersawn cut. The look of the back might make you think Cocobolo. It is definitely East Indian. The paduk binding is rich looking and set off with crisp fine lines of wood providing elegant demarkation from front to back to sides. The binding completely encircles the guitar from the headstock to the bottom end. A fine blonde line frames the ebony fingerboard. An amboya burl wood rosette is flanked by twin thin rings of jewel-like abalone separated by pinpoint line detail. in This is a highly refined example of the lutherie art. Congratulations, Charles. I will repeat this guitar for anyone who may miss it when it is sold. I don't expect it will be around long now that it is on the market today." --Richard
